The difference between Notepadv3 and Notepadv2 in the Android tutorial

At first I didn’t understand the difference between Notepadv3 and notepadv2, but after messing around a little bit, I think I figured it out. When you are editing a note in v3 and change something without confirming the changes, and then click the home button and then exit out of the android emulator (simulating a phone crash or running out of batteries I suppose), then restart the emulator (e.g. turn on the phone again), notepadv3 should have the changes still on the screen when you open back up Notepadv3 even though you didn’t confirm the changes. If you try and do this in Notepadv2, it doesn’t remember any changes you made. That’s at least what I got out of it.
